Friday Night Lights

It’s always sad when a tv show you love ends, but watching the last episode of Friday Night Lights was hard in a way you cannot really explain and you certainly cannot understand if you haven’t seen and loved the series. If you haven’t been by Coach’s side for five championships. If you haven’t cheered for the Panthers first and the Lions then. If you haven’t watched the boys and girls of Dillon grow into men and women. If you haven’t seen them struggle, lose hope, get up again and again, face themselves and the world, deal with small and big problems, be on top of the world and at the bottom of everything, grow to accept and love themselves and those around them, become a better person, make mistakes and apologize, cry and laugh and kiss, get mad and get over it, lose a battle, win a championship, fight for their beliefs, fall in love, come to terms with their parents and their imperfections, ask for help, beg for forgiveness, reinvent themselves, forgive and be forgiven… and in the end, just live.

Life, that’s what FNL is really about. Simple as that.

And FNL is simple, if you think about it. It doesn’t need big tragedies to make you cry; it doesn’t need epic battles to make you sit on the edge of the chair. It takes your breath away with the littlest of scenes, with the smallest of details.

Saying goodbye to this show is like saying goodbye to a friend, because it means saying goodbye to the characters – the people – you’ve known for five years. We know them so well that sometimes you wonder how can they not be real.

I have so many more things I want to say, but I can’t quite organize my thoughts just yet. I think I need to rewatch the finale, or maybe the whole series first.

It’s been quite a journey and I’d like to thank all the people who shared it with me. It’s been a pleasure! (And fandom is not over just because canon is, of course.)

Clear eyes, full hearts… can’t lose!

And most importantly: Texas Forever.
